Douglass Leather

Douglass Leather is resistant to soil and moisture. Basic care should involve no more than regular dusting. Never use detergents, saddle soap, oils or waxes. For topical spot cleaning, we have convenient and compact Leather Cleaner Wipes available. For mild or periodic cleaning, we recommend Douglass or Bridge of Weir Leather Cleaning Kits. Or:

  1. Use a solution of lukewarm water and a pure, mild soap.
  2. Dampen (don't wet) a soft cloth or sponge with solution and apply in circular motions.
  3. Wipe dry with a soft, clean cloth.

For ink or lipstick stain removal, please use our Douglass D.I.P. Stick.

If additional cleaning is required, please contact Douglass for specific recommendations.

Carpet

Carpet will best maintain color and texture with frequent and thorough vacuuming.

For mild cleaning: Vacuum regularly—once a day for high-traffic areas.

For deeper cleaning: Use a reputable brand of carpet shampoo and follow its directions.

If additional cleaning is required, please contact Douglass for specific recommendations.

Sheepskin

Sheepskins are chrome tanned and may be machine washed.* However, for most purposes, basic cleaning should require only brushing (a pet brush is ideal) and vacuuming. Severe heat can damage sheepskin, resulting in shrinking and hardening of pelts. Do not use alkaline products to clean sheepskin.

*If a backing has been applied to the sheepskin by a seat cover manufacturer, please check with that manufacturer before machine washing.

For mild cleaning:

  1. Sponge clean with water and a mild detergent.
  2. Comb the wool while wet and air dry skins away from artificial or excessive heat.
  3. Skins may tend to crimp after washing. If a straight hair appearance is preferred, brush fleece with a pet brush.

For deeper cleaning:

  1. Machine wash in warm water not exceeding 110 degrees F (90 degrees C).
  2. Use only pure, mild soap-do not use Woolite.
  3. Comb the wool while wet and air dry skins away from artificial or excessive heat.
  4. Skins may tend to crimp after washing. If a straight hair appearance is preferred, brush fleece with a pet brush.

If additional cleaning is required, please contact Douglass for specific recommendations.

Wool Upholstery Fabric

Wool has a natural resistance to dust and grime. It attracts less dirt than most other fibers, and releases it more readily. When cleaning, never use soap, ammonia, bleach or cleaners not intended for wool. Never saturate fabric with water.

For mild cleaning: Lightly vacuum areas that receive a lot of contact.

For deeper cleaning: Use a reputable brand of upholstery shampoo and follow its directions.

If additional cleaning is required, please contact Douglass for specific recommendations.

Polyester FR Fabric

Polyester FR is inherently resistant to stains. When using water, detergent or solvent, work from the outer edge of stain toward center to avoid ring marks. Do not saturate fabric with water or cleaning solutions.

For mild cleaning: Lightly vacuum areas that receive a lot of contact.

For deeper cleaning: All commercial cleaning agents and solvents can be used, including bleach.

If additional cleaning is required, please contact Douglass for specific recommendations.
